Put Yourself Back Together

The end of a marriage will have you looking rundown and tired. The way to up your game is to put yourself back together. Yes, it’s important to work on your mental and emotional health but it’s also helpful to work on the external part of you. What we see when we look in the mirror has a huge impact on how we feel overall. Don’t slack on your appearance anymore.

The first goal for me was my physical health so I started working out and walking. Movement really does lift your mood. If you do it long enough you will start to see changes. Those changes will give you the motivation to keep going. It just feels so good to take care of your body again. The added benefit is that you have more energy. We all need that now.

More than likely we have neglected our hair. We wear the same style because it was just easy. Get a new hairstyle that represents the new you. Try a new color, cut or both. Refresh your look and boost your mood. Tell your stylist you need a new look and ask them for suggestions. That is a quick way to get out of a slump.

Now we need to address your clothes. Put the sweats and old tee shirt back in the drawer. It’s time for some new outfits. There are so many great sites that have reasonably priced items. Some of them offer rewards programs for savings. If the budget is tight, you can try a resale shop. Many of them have new items with the tags. Another option is to ask friends for items they are no longer wearing. Get some new shoes too. Whatever your level, get your gear right and together. Then you won’t be able to use that as an excuse when you are invited out.

Take care of your dental hygiene. Your smile is everything so get an appointment with the dentist for a cleaning and exam. Get any lingering work done or set up a plan. If finances are an issue, shop around for a better deal. There are reasonable dental insurance plans online. It’s time to smile again.

Let’s get that skin glowing. Schedule a facial with an aesthetician who can teach you how to care for your skin between appointments. If that’s out of your reach, try do-it-yourself skincare and learn how to do it yourself. With the divorce I could no longer afford to get facials. I learned how to take care of my skin and it has paid off. Put your best face forward.

Tend to your nails. Whether you do them yourself or see a nail tech, get it done. Have a nail party with a friend and do each other. There is nothing attractive about feet that look like russet potatoes. I see someone every 3 weeks and maintain them myself in between. Stay on top of your nail care regimen.

Working on your appearance is a great way to lift your spirits. It won’t replace the mental and emotional piece but in combination you can build yourself up all the way around. It’s definitely time for you to shine again. Let the self-care motivate you to prioritize your appearance.
