Covert Operations

Once I headed down the path of divorce my ex started spying on me like the FBI. I needed to put my life under lock and key. I couldn’t understand why now was he so interested in what I was doing. At first it was annoying but then it became a game. Was he hiding in the bushes outside my house? Is that a drone hovering overhead?

I guess people do strange things after a breakup. He would try to probe me about what I was up to and I would give him simple answers. So when he couldn’t get me to open up he started getting what he could from the kids. “The kids said you had 2 shot glasses on the island” he said one day. I replied “Yes”. How could that be something of interest? I’m grown and I had shots with a friend. I needed those shots since I’m under an FBI investigation.

Since his probe wasn’t leading him anywhere he decided to start questioning people in my circle. By then I had briefed everyone that he was on a fact finding mission. So whenever he would interrogate someone of course they would let me know. One person said that initially it seemed innocent but then it became apparent that he was really digging for information. Now I was the one gaining intelligence on him. This was getting interesting. How did I get to the head of the investigation on me? I guess I’m the leader of NoIntelPro.

Like Olivia Pope I was now orchestrating this operation. I was heading up maneuvers that would turn him in one direction so that I could pass through without detection. Occasionally he would get information and I would feel defeated. Then I learned to use the information that he was privy to as bait to lure him into nowhere. He was upended by dead ends. This was major warfare and I was winning.

This battle showed up at my door and I had a choice in how I wanted to handle it. I learned a lot about myself and what I could accomplish. The medals that I received are a tight circle of friends, strategic planning and laughter. I took a frustrating situation and turned it around. He’s still looking for information and I’m sitting here smiling. And I’m going to keep smiling.
